General Information
About Tweed Heads
At the heart of Australia’s Green Cauldron, the Tweed region in northern NSW offers a unique combination of World Heritage listed rainforests, lush rolling farmland and unspoilt beaches, nestled in the eroded caldera of the largest shield volcano in the Southern Hemisphere.
The main hub of Tweed Heads, just five minutes from the Gold Coast Airport, is renowned for the live concerts, affordable dining and entertainment offered by world-class sporting and services clubs.
From here, the coastline stretches south through traditional seaside fishing villages where you can stay in affordable beachfront holiday parks and family apartments, interspersed with multi-million dollar leisure resorts offering five-star resort accommodation.

Tweed Heads and the Tweed Coast offer a wealth of activities and attractions, including our award-winning crab catching and rainforest cruises along the Tweed River, off-shore fishing charters, snorkelling with the turtles cruises out to Cook Island and whale watching from June to November.
The Annual Tweed River Festival is being held this year to coincide with the conference. Community activities, highlighting the importance of our waterways to our lives and lifestyles, will be held all week culminating with the fabulous lights of the Harbour Lantern parade on Saturday night at Jack Evans Boat Harbour.

About Tweed Shire Council
![]()
Tweed Shire covers 1303 square kilometres and adjoins the NSW shires of Byron, Lismore and Kyogle, with the NSW/Queensland border to its north where it divides the twin towns of Tweed Heads and Coolangatta.
With 37 kms of natural coastline, wetlands and estuarine forests, lush pastoral and farm land, the entire basin of the Tweed River, and mountainous regions containing three world-heritage listed national parks, Tweed boasts a unique and diverse environment.
Centrepiece of the Shire is Mount Warning, where the sun first hits the Australian continent. The surrounding McPherson, Tweed, Burringbar and Nightcap ranges form the caldera of the fertile Tweed Valley.
Prior to European settlement, the area was blanketed in sub-tropical forest and was home to the Nganduwal/Minjungbal people. Many of the Shire's towns and villages derive their names from the language of the local Aboriginal people.
The retail, hospitality, agricultural and tourism industries are major employers, while construction, fishing, and light industry are other significant contributors to the local economy.
